Service Description
What you'll learn: -Pattern considerations for for lead vs. foil -When and how to reinforce larger windows -How to prepare, cut, and shape traditional lead came -Soldering for lead to lead and lead to zinc connections -How to putty and clean lead windows What's included: -Use of grinders, zinc saw, lead vise during class What to bring or buy (all supplies available at our shop but it isn't mandatory to buy them here): -Pattern for a window with a maximum of 30 pieces and a size no greater than 24"x24" (Please e-mail designs ahead of the first class for approval) -Glass sufficient to create the chosen pattern -Tools (instructor will tell you what to bring each week): Glass cutter, breaking tools (grozer and runner), temperature controlled soldering iron intended for stained glass work, 60% tin/40% lead solder, paste stained glass flux, 3/4" plywood board 2" larger than pattern in both directions, 2 trim-cut 1"x2" boards (one 2" longer than pattern is long, one 2" longer than pattern is wide), 9/32" or 3/8" u zinc, glazing hammer or small tack hammer, horseshoe nails, lead brush, curved fid, lead dyke or knife, 3/16" or 9/64" H lead came, stained glass putty, whiting, grouting brush (natural bristle) Glass cutting and grinding experience required. Tuition only; tools and supplies extra. PLEASE NOTE: Stained glass is a time consuming process; students should expect between 1 to 4 hours of homework each week.
